About Us

Our Sharpener Database has been built by and for the community of pencil sharpener collectors and enthusiasts.

We owe special thanks to Mark Frankena who built the web-based Early Office Museum, which, for decades, has contained the only online database of Antique Pencil Sharpeners.  All of us have benefited from the extraordinary research he conducted, collected, and graciously shared.

We also owe gratitude to those who formed the "Collecting Antique Pencils and Pencil Sharpener" Facebook group.  It is wonderful to have a forum in which to discuss our collections.  This site is intended to be complimentary to the Facebook group.  We will not "take" photos from Facebook posts.  If you are interested in contributing your photos to our Database, you must do so yourself.

I am the architect of this site and serve as its Administrator.  More importantly, I am an enthusiastic collector of antique sharpeners.  Ever since I found a U.S. Automatic Pencil Sharpener at a booth in Brimfield, MA, I have been hooked.  It has been a pure joy collecting old sharpeners and admiring how each has a unique sharpening mechanism.  These old machines are an inspiration; they encourage creativity, questioning, imagination, problem solving, and so much more.  I am looking forward to learning from and contributing to our Database.

I'm always eager to hear your thoughts and feedback, so feel free to fill out the Contact form or email me at antiquepencilsharpeners@gmail.com.
